Compensation

How much will I earn?

Health Providers Choice is a "full disclosure" company and all compensation is based on the bill rates that HPC have negotiated with the clients they service. When negotiations for contract begins with the nurse, the nurse is informed of the bill-rates at the hospital they are anticipating placement with.  The formula used for assessing compensation is an 80/20 formula.  The nurse is offered 80% of the bill-rate minus all salary requirements paid by HPC to pay the nurse.  Salary requirements are those requirements that the government requires the employer to pay on gross wages.

Health Providers Choice offers a very attractive compensation program when compared to competitors in the travel industry.

What is the Federal Tax Benefit and how do I know if it applies to me?

If a candidate meets eligibility for tax-exempt per diem payments Health Providers Choice will use the Federal Tax Per-Diem to assist in covering living expenses while on assignment away from home.

Per diem is Latin, and means "by the day" or "per day".  The idea of per diem is to reimburse the travel nurse with tax-exempt dollars for normal living expenses up to a maximum rate set by the federal government.  When the travel nurse is reimbursed by per diem payment they do not have to show receipts for lodging, meals, and incidental expenses if they are under the posted per diem limits.

Per diem policy is set by the federal government.  You are eligible for tax-exempt per dime payments if  you are working away from your tax home on a temporary assignment that is contractually limited to less than one year. Per diem is always paid by the day.

The travel nurse can collect per diem up to seven days a week, including weekends and holidays, provided that you work the day before and the day after.  The travel nurse cannot collect per diem for days that are spent away from the remote work site on personal travel, or if the travel nurse returns to their tax home.

A travel nurse's tax home for the purpose of claiming per diem, is their permanent office or permanent residence as evidenced by a deed of ownership, mortgage, utility bills, or proof of permanent residence.

The maximum per diem rates for 2006 are posted at http://www. gsa.gov.  Click on "Per Diem Rates" on the left hand side for domestic rates.

Per diem rates quoted in government tables are the maximum allowable reimbursement for a given location.  Seasonal rates apply when indicated in the per diem tables.

Do I have to take the Federal Tax Benefit or do I have other options?

It is not necessary to use the Federal Tax Benefit. Travel Nurses can receive no Federal Tax Per-Diem reimbursement and line item their deductions on their Federal Taxes.  Career Placement Specialists at HPC can provide the travel nurse with all the information they need to make decisions on how they should be compensated.
