Frequently asked questions
Why should a nurse choose Health Providers Choice for their employer when there are so many other companies out there that seem to offer the same types of things? Although there are several travel companies in the market it is important to realize that each travel company has a different product to sell the nurse. What is the difference between per-diem supplemental staffing and travel nursing? Hospitals and healthcare facilities faced with staffing shortages rely on different staffing modalities to support their needs. Some hospitals determine their staff need by evaluating real-time patient census and flexing their staff to meet the patient demand shift by shift or hour by hour. Per-diem supplemental staffing is used by hospitals to adjust the staffing level based on fluctuations in patient census. The Per-diem nurse works shifts on a "need" basis. Per-diem shifts can be either confirmed or cancelled according to hospital need. Per-diem nurses can work part-time or full-time and can schedule shifts according to their availability. The Per-diem nurse generally will orientate to several hospitals within a designated region. When hospitals and healthcare facilities need to supplement core staff for a long period of time they will request to use a travel nurse. Travel nurses are placed in long term assignments to fill scheduling gaps caused by the absence of core staff. Travel contracts guarantee a specified number of hours and the shifts are not cancelled. Travel contracts offer the traveler an opportunity to explore different systems of care delivery, while earning top salaries.
What are the minimum requirements to apply? All healthcare providers must have at least 12 consecutive months of acute care experience and licensure in the state they will be practicing (Health Providers Choice will be happy to assist you with the licensing process). Remember, when a nurse takes his/her first assignment, as per-diem staff or travel, the hospital will expect that the nurse will be able to adapt to his/her surroundings after a brief orientation. The ability to always maintain a positive attitude, adapt quickly to change, and remain flexible are key elements of a successful registry nurse.
